Silk is a protein fiber produced by silkworms, the most shimmering and bright among animal fibers. Silk filament is obtained by unwinding the cocoons of the worms Bombyx mori in hot water and then spinning 4 to 8 filaments (long up to 1 km) together into a single thread. The silk yarn, produced from continuous filaments, has a great tensile strenght and a natural shimmer because of its triangular molecular structure that acts like a prism and refracts light.
