Cashmere is a precious fiber obtained from small goats raised in Asia; the best fibers come from Iran, Mongolia, Tibet and Afghanistan. Its name comes from the historical region of Kasmir, straddling India, Pakistan and China. Cashmere has a velvety and silky hand and gives a sense of extreme warmth and softness on the skin. This precious fiber is obtained by manually combing the goats' coat during the moulting season in spring and the average production per animal is around only 150 g. Commonly associated with other wool fibers, cashmere is however much more resistant, has a unique sheen and softness and is about three times more insulating than ordinary sheep's wool.
